Boron Carbide Sandblaster Nozzles- One of the Longest Lasting

Posted on April 12, 2018 by Eric R. W.

You may or may not have realized this from some of my blog posts, but I am obsessed with a good, long lasting nozzle. This is one of a couple components I do not recommend going cheap on when sandblasting. You can actually get an okay sandblasting setup at a fairly inexpensive price that can get the job done. But if you are blasting with any hard type of abrasive which wears nozzles down quick, it really does make sense to get a high-quality blast nozzle.

Long lasting nozzles actually end up lowering the cost in the long run since you won’t be continuously buying and replacing them. Not only that, but it reduces the amount of wasted time replacing them and reduces the energy consumption of your air compressor often caused by a quickly worn out nozzle. Both of which drove me nuts when I started out using cheapie ceramic nozzles!

In my opinion, most ceramic nozzles are garbage and probably shouldn’t even be used with aluminum oxide or silicon carbide abrasive.

As you may know, we do offer Kennametal’s ROCTEC carbide nozzles here but the cost on those have went up recently, even though I am trying to keep the price down for all you folks. Because of the rising cost and because the lower cost boron carbide is probably sufficient in durability for most folks, I decided to work with a manufacturer to produce our own boron carbides.

How Long Do Boron Carbides Last?

Before the Roctec came to the market, these type of boron carbide nozzles were probably the longest lasting. When hard, aggressive abrasives such as aluminum oxide is used, our boron carbide nozzles should be estimated to last:

  • 50-250 times longer than ceramic nozzles
  • 5-10 times longer than tungsten carbide nozzles

Our Boron Carbide Nozzles are estimated to last around 200 – 1000 hours with aluminum oxide.

What Type & Size Do We Carry?

Many of you here probably use the popular 7/16″ O.D., tapered to 5/16″ O.D. type nozzle if you use non-industrial size pressure pot blasters. We carry this type which is used on most of the pressure pots from Harbor Freight and other outlets.

At the moment, we carry the 3/32″ ID boron carbide which is now listed on Amazon here. Not only is this my most preferred size for blasting projects in a cabinet, it seems to be the most in demand as well. It is a good size for cabinets, handles fine to semi-course abrasives even up to 30-60 grit, and seems to be a good size to use with a lot of garage sized air compressors that many people seem to have.

I Need Your Help & My Gift

If you need or what a longer lasting nozzle, I will be giving a few folks a coupon to get one of our Boron Carbide nozzles for 80% off the current listed Amazon price.

But there is a catch– I am looking for people to review these and give me feedback. So if you promise to give me feedback on these, I will send you the 80% off coupon. After the coupon is used, I believe the cost ends up being about $10 + shipping and handling.

If you are interested, please leave a comment below or email me. I will email you the 80% coupon which is a limited time.

  34. Eric R. W. says:
    October 29, 2019 at 9:31 pm

@Bob, yes a lot of times when we release new nozzles, we are lowering the price sometimes at a loss in exchange for feedback. It’s in a way, my idea of paying for some of the other member’s time in testing them.

However, I still ask that if they don’t last for anyone, to please request a return/refund. I will honor a full refund and have in the past with some of our initial batch of nozzles that had issues holding up because they weren’t a high density. I have issued a few refunds for those duds.

I feel we have improved it quite a bit since then

Removing paint from parking garage structures. Covering large surface areas, 1 1/4” female nozzle thread required. Looking for fan pattern rather than straight blast. Somehow in my mind it theoretically feels more comfortable removing in flat pattern rather than circular. I feel this may drastically increase productivity with less mind work.

    Witam.
    Hello.
I have been working with pressure sandblasting machines for many years, I make inscriptions and sculptures in granite. I used tungsten nozzles. Your article interested me.
I need a durable 5/32 ” venture kenmetal or boron nozzles.
I am asking for advice, a coupon and where to buy and for how much.
A friend from the USA will buy me and send it to Poland.
I will describe my observations on the operation of the nozzle.
Currently, I use a nozzle from Derush 4.1 / 8 ” long, 5/32 ” hole, bore there is a colossal improvement in performance but already worked out. The address of my colleague in the USA will be provided.
    regards
    Jan Fotext Poland
